Jovani Unique Homecoming Dresses
A Jovani Homecoming dress is always going look unique and eye catching. With over a thousand vastly different dresses to choose from, there’s something to suit every personality and satisfy even the newest fashion trends.
Homecoming is going to be the biggest event of the year, second only to the really special spring dance. For underclassmen, it’s a practice for "the big one", and may even be your first formal dance. For the upperclassmen “hoco” is a time to remember and cherish, because the next time you attend a homecoming just might be your high school reunion. Shopping for a homecoming dress, then, should be a whole lot of fun. The pressure is on to find an outfit that only fits and feels great, but is also original and not the same thing that other girls are wearing. There is no bigger fashion faux pa than showing up in the same outfit as someone else!
A Little Bit of History…
Founded in 1980 by Jacob Maslavi and his two sons, Saul and Abraham, the fashion house of Jovani has grown to become one of the top designers of formal gowns. In 1996 a name you might recognize, Sherri Hill, another top formal designer, was brought on to help them expand their formal dress line, and the rest is history. The brand is focused on creating original looks with gorgeous beadwork, quality fabrics, and craftsmanship that is demanded by the women who wear their dresses: pageant contestants, celebrities, and for formal occasions.
The unique personality of Jovani dresses makes them a favorite on the red carpet. In fact, they have been seen on the likes of Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Jewel, Miranda Lambert, and Carrie Underwood, just to name a few. They also featured the musical group Fifth Harmony as the face of their 2014 campaign. Whether you are shopping for homecoming dresses or other special events, their vast range of styles is a great place to begin your search.
What Makes a Jovani Homecoming Dress Special?
A little less formal than at the end of the school year, the Homecoming dance is also about having fun with your friends and celebrating school spirit. Unless you are on the homecoming court, you’ll probably want something shorter and easier to get around in for homecoming. While short sassy dresses dominate this season’s Jovani homecoming collection, there are also a number of knee length, below the knee, and tea length ensembles that encompass the same youthful vibe.
This season it’s all about prints. Floral prints get the royal treatment, on shiny satins and acetate. Bright and colorful, this year the flowers are bigger and there are more of them. There’s more color, the patterns are more intricate, and there’s more to look at. The luxurious jewelry print is one of our favorites, featuring links of brilliant gems that seem to jump right off the fabric. If a flouncy and full skater skirt isn’t your style, many dresses are available in A-line or fitted versions. The collection is also heavy on ombre, neon colors, stripes, and galaxy sequined motifs. And if colors aren’t your cup of tea, there’s a marbleized swirl print in black and gray that we’re totally in love with.
There are lots of fitted minidresses, as well as A-line silhouettes with circle skirts, that stand out with voluminous layers in all their twirly glory. Making fewer appearances this year are the one-shoulder dress, and v-neck shift or sheath dress. As varied in styles as it is in colors, the collection features several different sleeve styles, ranging from full-length sleeves to three-quarter and short sleeves. There are also plenty of sleeveless and strapless bodices to pick from. A few styles feature a unique asymmetrical skirt with a hem that comes down longer on one side. Another is a cute variation on a high-low hem, coming to a small point in the back. Another is layered with a contrasting color underneath a high low hem creating a futuristic frock that is out of this world. Not to be outdone, short skater skirts get extra poufy with some sporting fluffy crinolines underneath for added fullness.
And Now Our Favorite Looks of the Collection…Drumroll Please…
This season is all about looking different and having something the other girls don’t have. We’re seeing tons of sporty stripes, elegant and commanding cape sleeves, keyhole necklines and cutout backs. It’s all about having a unique look that is all your own. No one wants to be basic, and this collection is anything but basic.
With everything from the gorgeously girlish pouf skirts, wispy chiffon scarf skirts that float in layers, and two-piece dresses with a crop top and skirt, each Jovani dress takes on a unique personality all its own. There are loads of classic LBDs (little black dresses), bold shapes and silhouettes, crazy patterns, embroidery, and lace: needless to say it was hard to pick the stars of this year’s collection.
One look that really stands out however are the gemstone print dresses we touched on earlier, scroll through the pages, you cannot miss them! Available in both fitted or a flared A-line version, these strapless mini dresses utilize a bold print that looks like links of colorful jewels and gems on a background of shiny black satin. The way their drawn reminds us of those link and chain Chanel prints from the 80’s, but with an edgy update.
One outfit that is totally giving us vintage vibes is like something right off the set of Mad Men. Topped with a round neckline, it not only gives full coverage, it is also Paris chic, with a beautifully draped, easy fit made up of stylized folds. It’s topped with three quarter sleeves and the piece de resistance, pouf cuffs like nothing we have ever seen before.
A modern era marvel is the fitted color block dress in bold primary colors that create a pop art kind of feeling, very reminiscent of the rectangle artwork by Piet Mondrian. Other dresses embrace the groovy side of the sixties with bell sleeves and large front pockets, or sweeping racing stripes running vertically down one side.
Fringe is still very hot this season and Jovani has taken note. They offer a fringed skirt mini as well as a short fitted dress with all over fringe that whips round your body as you twirl around the dance floor.
Something else we haven’t seen that is a true Jovani original, the multicolored ombre skater skirt, which gets paired with a solid black halter top for a look that’s totally put together. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the mix and match trend comes into play for a number of styles. One of which features a colorful strapless sequin bodice mismatched with a short floral skirt, so crazy it works!
Because Jovani is the homecoming gown experts, their creations are made with dance goers in mind. The short skirts are easy to move in, and as an added bonus, many feature hidden pockets on the side seams, perfect for stashing a phone and an ID, because no one wants to babysit a purse all night.
