Planning a Spring Wedding

First of all, why Spring? The spring season symbolizes growth, birth and rebirth, and new beginnings. It’s a time of joy and excitement that emerges after the colder, darker months of winter – everything begins to wake up and come back to life. The trees grow new leaves, flowers begin to blossom and bloom, and there’s a buzz of energy about. Everything about spring aligns with getting married as you continue your relationship and begin a new chapter together. It’s a time of growth and new beginnings together as a married couple, so a spring wedding is the perfect symbolic gesture.

Spring Wedding Dresses

Shopping for your spring bridal gown is one of the first steps in your planning process and there are a few important things to keep in mind.

Most importantly, be sure to research average temperatures for your venue location. Since springtime can still get chilly in the late-afternoon and evening, you may need to accessorize with a shawl or light coat on top of your reception look.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it’s more important to find a spring bridal gown that suits your style, preferences, and comfort first and then plan the decor, color palette, and theme around that. The only exception to this is if you absolutely love certain colors and know that you want a specific color scheme, then find a dress that complements the color scheme. Otherwise, it’s smart practice to find your dress first.

We love the unique look of this Willowby Virgo A-line spring wedding dress. It stands out with the thin lace wrap around the bodice that subtly enhances the waistline, which is perfectly balanced by the soft scoop neckline and open back. This slim A-line silhouette is complete with appliquéd net and a gathered skirt.

Spring Wedding Colors

One of the biggest perks of having a springtime wedding is the lovely array of colors available! Color scheme planning is best when it compliments nature and the setting of your ceremony/reception – and thankfully, that means you have a lot of options from bright to muted.

When we look at spring landscape, often times you’ll see a mix of muted greens, whites, and rose colors. But you’ll also see pops and splashes of bright, vivid colors. For this reason, your spring wedding colors are sure to be an array of beautiful hues!

Because this season is a transitional season between Summer and Winter, you’re not limited to one tone or hue of colors. Using a mix of rich, deep colors with a few warmer colors too can be quite pleasing. Go ahead and use a mix of muted pastels with splashes of brighter accent colors like the examples below.

Tips for Choosing Your Spring Bridal Bouquet

Ideally, you should pick your wedding gown first before you decide on a color scheme and definitely before you pick your bridal bouquet. Since we’ve been in the bridal wear business for over 30 years, we’ve heard a lot of stories about excited brides picking everything else first and then trying to find a dress that fit with their wedding theme. Trust us – choose your wedding dress first before moving onto flower planning.

Now that we cleared that up – let’s talk spring wedding flowers!

First, consider what style and size of bouquet you want. Simple and sleek or full and detailed? A big cascading bouquet is beautiful, but it takes away from the bride and the spring bridal gown (not to mention, they can get heavy!)

Then, find out what’s in season where your wedding will be. For example, it doesn’t make sense to have coastal flowers at a wedding in the middle of a landlocked state, so be mindful and consider what flowers are both in season and will suit the location.

Pro Tip: If your favorite flowers will be out of season at the time, ask your florist if they can suggest any lookalike flowers that are in season.

It’s also important to consider the table arrangements – it’s best to have something substantial enough for the centerpiece but short enough so people can carry on a conversation with a clear line of sight across the table.
