The Awards season is in full swing, with Golden Globes just behind us and more glamorous events, including Oscars yet to come. When the stars stroll the red carpet in their glamorous gowns and outstanding outfits, we just can’t take our eyes off. All the colors, silhouettes, glitz and sparkle, the design – so beautiful, but so out of reach. There is no way a high school girl like you could ever dare to dream wearing something like that for prom, right?

Well, think again. Many prom dress designers are actually keeping an eye on red carpet couture, and take these looks as inspiration for dresses that prom girls can wear, and afford. Designers like Sherri Hill, Jovani or Mac Duggal create gowns and jumpsuits that could get you on any “Best Dressed” list, and allow you to have your very own red carpet moment on prom night.

Let the red carpet fashion inspire your prom dress choice, and take look at these celebrity inspired styles. These are the hottest trends of the season:

Saphire Shades

When the Pantone Color Institute announced color of the year 2020 to be Classic Blue, we knew we were going to see lots of blue dresses on red carpets. The Golden Globes didn’t disappoint. Ana de Armas look absolutely breathtaking in sparkling navy Ralph & Russo perfectly styled with bold red lip and Tiffany & Co jewelry. On the other hand, Golden Globe winner Renee Zellweger opted for a softer shade and looked flawless head-to-toe in a strapless baby-blue Armani Privé gown.

Most prom dresses designers have embraced all shades of blue and incorporated them into their latest collections. The perfect example is Sheri Hill 53593, fitted navy gown with intricate silver details. In this dress you will not stay unnoticed, as sparkling embellishments make dazzling impression on anyone that lays their eyes on you.

Of course, glamorous as ever, Tarik Ediz wowed us with this opulent gown in navy, with the most gorgeous crisscross detail on the back. The plunging neckline with inserted mesh gives an appropriate dose of sexy, and the taffeta overskirt can be detached to create a more fitted silhouette.

Statement Sleeves

Puff sleeves were the staple of almost every 80’s prom dress.  In the last couple of years we’ve seen this iconic trend come back in an unexpectedly elevated way. Stars and style icons from Dakota Fanning, Jodie Comer and Kaitlyn Dever, to Janina Gavankar, and even the Queen B herself were spotted at the Golden Globes rocking bold and unapologetically fashionable puffy sleeves. If you are the girl who is not afraid to be seen, take a look at these prom gowns with verz fashionable statement sleeves.

jovani 2622

Next, there is Jovani 2622, fit and flare embroidered tea length cocktail dress with high waist strapless bodice and straight neckline. This is a gorgeous dress without a doubt, but what makes it an absolute hit is the sheer overlay with collar neckline and front button closure, and of course, three-quarter bishop sleeves.

If you want something more youthful and fun, Alyce Paris 60746 is the style you’ll love. This 2-piece off-the-shoulder ensemble with fitted mermaid skirt comes in three colors, red, black and this gorgeous vibrant clementine.

Head-to-Toe Sparkle

There is no such thing as too much sparkle on the red carpet. Many of the stars that walked the red carpet this award season opted for the very bold look – head-to-toe sequins. On Critics’ Choice Awards Anne Hathaway dazzled in a breathtaking gold Atelier Versace gown, featuring a sexy plunging neckline and bat wing sleeves.

If you are the girl that does’t like to blend in, take a page out of Anne Hathaway’s book and show to you prom in full glitz. We are not talking few sequins here and there, this looks requires sparkle all over. And while celebrity dresses made by famous designers cost thousands of dollars, here at Madame Bridal we can help you look equally stunning for couple hundreds.

Black and White

Black and white is the ultimate combination for any formal event, but it doesn’t mean it is a “safe” or boring option. This color combo most often reserved for menswear, can be used to make a serious fashion statement.

Although this Sherri Hill dress is technically black and ivory (with silver stars) we were so mesmerized by it that we will be including it in every list of best prom dresses from now on. Just kidding, but look at this beauty, from the asymmetric one-shoulder neckline, across the star beadwork accents down to the sweep train. It truly looks like it was made of dreams.

Both black and white are the most often seen colors on the red carpet, but the perfection of a high contrast look means that this combination will be in vogue forever. That is the reason why designers like Jovani keep reinventing this style year after year. On the left you can see Jovani 4341, glamorous formal gown with a plunging halter neckline featuring chevron beadwork all over fitted silhouette and a wide beaded waistband. On the right there is Jovani 3854, an edgy black and white scuba tux jumpsuit with a collar v-neckline, a one long sleeve bodice and closed back with zipper closure.

Vibrant Colors

Last year many Hollywood stars decided to wear black to the red carpet to raise awareness for Time’s Up movement, but this year colors are back bolder and brighter. Scarlet Johansson and Nicole Kidman rocked the red, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Tiffany Haddish were pretty in pink, and Charlize Theron was a standout in her bright lime dress. Sure, every year there is few trendy colors for prom dresses, but you can absolutely wear any color you want, as long as it looks good against your complexion and makes you feel good.
