Getting ready for your wedding the day of your wedding is an exciting and stressful time! There are so many other details to worry about; your wedding day makeup doesn’t need to be one of them. Whether you’ve hired a makeup artist or have watched countless YouTube tutorials and are confident in your steady hand when applying eyeliner, you have high expectations to look flawless.

It’s a myth that brides have to wear heavier makeup just because it’s a wedding and they’re being photographed. On your wedding day, you want to look like the most beautiful version of yourself – not an overdone bridal version of yourself. If you want a natural makeup to go with your flowy simple bridal gown or a relaxed boho wedding dress then do it. Here are our top tips for natural bridal makeup.

  1. Care for Your Skin
Clean and hydrated skin is the base of everything. Two to three weeks before the wedding, use your normal cleanser but add a few more minutes of massaging with your fingertips all around the face. This gets the blood flowing and plumps the face like a mini facial. Follow with moisturizer.skin care routine before the wedding
  2. Use Primer
A good primer before makeup will keep your makeup lasting all day. As you will probably start getting ready for your big day early in the morning and the makeup needs to last until the evening, it should have labels like ‘waterproof’, ‘long-lasting’ or ‘long wear’.
  3. Apply Matte Foundation
Use your regular color foundation but remember to blend. A damp sponge like a Beauty Blender will give a more sheer finish. Don’t forget to take it down the neck and jaw line. To avoid getting shiny, use a foundation that has a matte formula.
  4. Eyes
For your eyes stick to neutral tones and add a touch of dark brown or black liner to the upper lash line for definition. More neutral tones, and softer shades of stronger colors, tend to look more effortless in photos and help keep the look more cohesive. Prep eyes with an eyelid primer or base to help the eye shadow to last longer. Use a few layers of mascara or some individual lashes with a good lash glue such to keep them in place all night.
  5. Beautiful Brows

This is the step you absolutely must not skip if you want to do natural makeup for your big day. Not only does groomed brow frame your face, but also helps draw attention to your gorgeous eyes. For natural makeup a slightly more groomed and darker brow will help finish the look. This also translates well in wedding photos.

  6. Blush
Adding color to the cheeks will add warmth to your skin, lift your natural features and draw attention to your cheekbones. Keep blush soft and natural using pink or peach tones and apply lightly to the apples of the cheeks. The key is in making your blush look like it’s your own natural, rosy glow.
  7. Lovely Lips
Keep lips to a color close to the natural lip tone. Don’t use a super glossy product, use a lip liner or lip stain to fill in the lips and then apply a matte or satin lipstick in a nude color on top to finish. This will keep the lipstick longer lasting and won’t kiss off on other people, and by “other people” we mean the groom.
  8. Setting makeup
Set your make up with a matte powder. We recommend using a setting spray to keep your make up looking fresh all day from ceremony, through the reception. You can also use a translucent powder and apply it where needed to prevent shine – your forehead, around your nose and mouth. A setting spray or setting powder will prevent the makeup from sweating (or crying) off.
  9. Body Makeup
For an extra touch to your bridal look, add a little body shimmer to the shoulders and arms to complete the look. Finishing off your look with body shimming will not only complete your wedding makeup looks but it will also create a healthy polished look in your wedding photos.beautiful natural bridal look

Natural makeup is perfect if you are not someone who wears a lot of makeup, I can’t possibly wrap their head around contouring, and your makeup “collection” consists of mascara, foundation and a red lipstick. If that’s the case, why would you force to try to make full glam happen on your wedding day? Stick to the look you feel good about. You want to look beautiful in those wedding photos, and sure way to achieve that is to make sure you look like your best self, rather than a face on a magazine cover.
